Rigid shapes in 3D-space is personally not a strong suit for me. So, I fill my notebooks with these little shapes everywhere, to make sure I’m at least practising a little bit. They’re a little out of shape, but sometimes I get a few right. This is a quick brush-up or tiny-practice exercise you can perform while attending a boring class or meeting. Of course, there are more technical and less freeform ways of practicing this. And it all comes down to using an artistic resource known as “ perspective “ grids. These grids help your eye visualize and calculate your lines when drawing objects in 3D-space, and is widely used among artists who delve in 3-dimensional visuals.
^The one point grid is good for starters, although the lack of cubic patterns can make it a little difficult to figure out at first. But as long as you align your figure with the prominent lines in some shape or form, you should be fine.
2-point perspective comes along when we add another vanishing point to the mix. This makes for this cubic kind of grid, that may be easier to read but requires a bit more spacial understanding to master.
Arguably the grid representing our reality most “ accurately “, the 3-point perspective grid requires a good amount of spacial understanding and can be hard to master ( i had to do numerous takes on one of the blocks ) due to my eyes getting lost in the mass of lines. This can be a great tool for constructing dramatic looking constellations and practice extreme perspective.
If you hated math as much as I did back in pre-and middle school, you may remember the isometric paper challenges as one of the only saving graces of the subject. The isometric paper is a great starter tool for learning spacial understanding ( and also a great tool for still-life composition, and experimentation ). Although it does limit you to a “ slightly upward “ tilted point of view, or a slightly downward “ tilted point of view. But nonetheless, if you grab yourself a sheet of isometric paper, you can fill it all out with shapes and practice your shapes a little more sufficiently than freestyling it in your notebook.
and of course, using the other three grids will help you practice your eye and brain to recognize rigid forms in 3D space, which can help you along later – when you’ll try to draw it without any guidelines. It is not uncommon to use guidelines even in actual art-pieces though. Many industry professionals make use of it to ensure everything aligns correctly, and that the perspective is on point.
These particular grids are free for both private and commercial use and can be found and downloaded from this page.
Mod Future here! ^^ I wanted to tack on some helpful diagrams in using geometrical shapes to construct human figures.
Bridgman treats the human torso as two loose rectangular prisms (one for the ribs, one for the pelvis). In figure drawing, he uses these simple shapes to establish an easy appeal of twisting the figure.
It’s also helpful for establishing the angle of your figure. If you’re looking at it from below, you’ll see the bottom of the boxes. Looking from the top, you’ll the top of both boxes. Looking head on, or mid-point, you can see some of the bottom of the ribs’ box, and top of the pelvis box. :3
Truth be told, at this point I absolutely hate Amino and no one can change my mind.
There’s so much art theft on the app, and no one is trying to do something against it. There is no “report” button, there is no “DMCA” request. You can only ask the MODs or ADMs to remove the art, but sometimes they will refuse to remove it, or even start being aggressive, throwing tons of stupid excuses for their acts. And you’re forced to download the app and make an account to request them to take down your art.
That being said – even the ADMs and MODs are supporting art theft.
For example, my friend asked an ADM from SU BR Amino to take down a post because they CROPPED their watermark, the ADM refused to take it down and said that they would make a new post crediting the art. (And they blamed Pinterest users for cropping the watermark – which as a lie).
My friend explained that reposting art without permission is a crime (and in fact, it is) and they said that they weren’t stealing (because no one claimed the art as their own) so it wouldn’t be considered a crime.
My friend told the ADM that artists disliked Amino because art theft as something common, and then, the ADM told their friends about it – and the same people stalked my friend and started to victim-blaming and saying bad things about my friend, like “you are disgusting”.
After joining the artists community on Tumblr, I’ve meet some artists that share similar stories, and ALL of them have the same dislike for Amino that i have.
For short, if you are a creator, and ask them to take down your art or edit, or they’ll ignore you, or being completely arrogant and disrespectful.
Now stop a minute and think about it with me –
An Amino blog with more than 100,000 users (where most of the users are minors) learning to support art theft, while both ADMs and MODs are being immature and doing nothing about it.
Art theft is a big issue on the internet already, and the kids are not learning to respect the artists – they are learning the opposite.
Kids are idolizing the MODs and the ADMs, and not the content creators.
So what do you think will happen in the future?
Not to mention this damn watermark:
Re-watermarking an artwork?
This should be ilegal.
Now, seriously:
– Don’t roleplay as others characters.
– Don’t re-name, trace or steal others characters.
– Don’t repost art when the artist has clearly said they don’t want that.
I’m not saying that ALL Aminos are like that. But only few Aminos are absolutely against art theft and have guidelines about it.
Hey just so my followers know, I’ve had problems with this before and I know some of my artwork is still on Amino without my permission, not even credited, and it really frustrates me. :^)
If you’re reading this and you have my artwork on Amino, please remove it because I did not give you or anyone else permission, thank you :^)))
as someone who has an elder sis on amino (who is an admin/leader) she handles and forbids art theft, traces, and rps of character that dont belong to that user.
i use to agree that, children will be children, but no. children know what they are doing, stealing, reposting and such because when you call them out, they get defensive and have many of the common excuses of “i didnt know”
“its not hurting “
“oh but i just loved this art/oc/style so much i just wanted to share-”
no. dont allow people to do this not matter what. for you kids, if you dont like your stuff being taken, why are you taking our stuff.
For real though this is like such a big problem on amino and it’s so damn frustrating when the leaders and mods themselves defend it. I’ve had a leader tell me “They didn’t claim it as their own” and “Google is free”. It’s freaking insane something needs to be done about this.
Simone Giertz, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Shitty Robots.” She intentionally engineers terrible robots just for fun.
everything this woman makes is goddamn fantastic
So I went to her YouTube channel cuz I was like “yo I want some more funny robot videos.
Turns out:
Her latest update on twitter just came out less than a day ago:
Hopefully, her recovery goes well.
On a lighter note, when she discussed the possibility of going blind in one eye as a result of the surgery she got a comment:
She’s recovering wonderfully and she is not blind and doesnt have any complications! And she rented a full workshop, she used to work literally on the other side of her tiny basically one or two room house but now she has a whole workshop! I’m so happy for her
This made my fucking day…..I usually only blog about Witchy things but .this just made me smile and laugh so….what is more bewitching that a smile and a laugh …..so fuck it …posted
Fun Vampire Fact; the reason that Vampires traditionally cannot see their reflections in a mirror is because mirrors used to be backed with a reflective layer of silver — which, as the metal of purity, would not ‘interact’ with Vampires, who are the Devil’s work.
However, modern mirrors have used aluminum as their reflective backing for many years now — and aluminum is not a ‘picky’ metal at all. So Vampires are able to see their reflections in modern mirrors.
All I can think about is a vampire used to not seeing their reflection in mirrors for centuries, and one day they are just walking along and unknowingly pass a mirror backed with aluminum and THEY NEARLY SHIT THEMSELVES.
