Want to know how corrupt the pharmaceutical industry is?

See this?

This is called Afrezza. It’s an inhaler for diabetic insulin. That’s right. An inhaler. That means no more needles. It’s only for fast acting insulin, but it could still vastly improve the life of a lot of diabetics.

Imagine having to constantly prick yourself with needles to keep yourself alive, and then suddenly there’s a new product that could change the whole way you live your life for the better.

And here’s the thing: it works. It works really really well. People with diabetes that have been lucky enough to have used it think it’s amazing.

But sadly, it’s probably going to end up as a failure because the pharmaceutical company (a French company called Sanofi) that was in charge of marketing it didn’t care enough to actually try. Not only that, but they made it incredibly expensive so hardly anyone could afford it. Most people have never heard of it, and the way things are going, no one else ever will.

Please reblog this to raise awareness of this product and hopefully get another company to market it. It could change so many lives.

It would change and save my life. If there’s one thing I hate in the top 5 most in this world. It’s the fucking pharmaceutical, money mongering, heartless industry.

Dear People Who Smoke

I don’t know if you have considered this but stop smoking in areas where people are forced to wait at. Don’t smoke at crosswalks. Don’t smoke outside doorways. Don’t smoke at bus stops. People with asthma or other breathing conditions or people that idk DON’T WANT TO BREATHE IN YOUR CIGARETTE SMOKE are trying to get to places and need to be able to breathe. Stop smoking in crowded areas. stop smoking in crowded areas. STOP FORCING NONSMOKERS TO SECOND HAND SMOKE.

This may be news to some people, but this applies to marijuana too.

This actually also applies to vapes. My asthma goes off to even vape smoke, it’s not harmless, there are particulates in it that other peoples lungs can and are affected by.

You do not have the right to force anyone else to smoke or vape your fumes.

While I agree with the points on smoking, I have to disagree with the vaping one. There are many scientific findings that prove, without a doubt, that “second hand vaping” does not exist. In these findings it was proven that the amount of substances measurable in the air in a room where people vape are much smaller than what counts as limiting value in, for example, EU workplace laws. (Meaning that, for example, the amount of formaldehyde found in the room air when someone is vaping is below the amount that experts have determined to be perfectly safe and acceptable at your work place)

There are no particles – as there are in smoke – as this is vapour, meaning the finest possible drops of liquid. Unless someone is burning up their vape, there’s physically and chemically no way for there to be particles in vapour. Any potential reaction to vapour is either an individual dislike of the particular flavour or a mere placebo/an illusion. You see something resembling smoke, so your brain automatically causes you to experience your usual reaction.

Again, there are studies that prove that vaping is completely and utterly harmless to bystanders. No matter what the media and some politicians with lobbyist interest might tell you.

Admittedly, I, a vaper myself, still find it a bit rude when people blow extremely large clouds in public because a) maybe I don’t want to smell your artificial cherry-menthol or chocolate-glazed donut that strongly and b) I still want to see my surroundings. But that’s pretty much the only logical argument against (excessive) vaping in public.

Also, for further reading since I could be making this up 😉  see this article

It states quite precisely what I said above.

“Cigarette smoke hangs around for ages whereas the chemicals in a vape, because it’s liquid-based droplets, dissipates quite quickly.”

Dr Mendehlson confirmed research has identified very low levels of chemicals in the air from vaping. Studies of vaping in homes found no discernible effect on air quality, and concentrations of vaping chemicals in vape shops were well below occupational exposure limits and nicotine was undetectable.

“The bottom line is that there is no identified health risk to bystanders.”

They still can be a risk to bystanders. Once I was hanging out with some friends and one was vaping. I accidentally breathed some and it set off one of my allergies (I’m allergic to the chemicals used to make perfumes and the like). This happened another time when I was in a car with someone vaping, so it’s not a one off instance. Plus some people have sensory problems that could be set off by it

You’re confusing general risks with highly individual, very specific and rare health problems. As you said yourself, you have these reactions to perfumes, too. Does that automatically mean that using perfume in public is unsafe and should not be done? No, it absolutely doesn’t. Same as nobody would claim toast is unsafe to eat because there are people with gluten allergies or movies are to be banned because some people have epilepsy.

Individual and rare conditions don’t mean the whole public should or even can accommodate to prevent the effects. It simply cannot be done. And shouldn’t be. Because, to stick to the perfume allegory, nobody can expect me to quit applying perfume on the off chance I might run into someone with such a rare medical condition. Generally speaking and to the vast majority of bystanders, perfume is safe and perfectly fine. And so is vaping.

It’s not as rare as you seem to think. After all, allergies and asthma both are real conditions. It’s not fair that I have to worry about my health just because you can’t wait ten minutes to vape. And just so you know with your other examples, I do believe excessive amounts of perfume and movies that trigger epilepsy shouldn’t be allowed. People’s health is more important than a couple minutes of enjoyment.

(The example with the toast doesn’t really match up because me eating toast isn’t a situation where I’m forcing others to do it, too, while if you’re smoking, you’re forcing everyone around you to breathe it as well)

Plus, a couple decades ago, we thought smoking was safe, and now we know otherwise. Vaping is newer technology so we don’t know long term effects. They’ve already discovered that you can ruin your lungs with vaping, and it’s possible there’s a long term risk from second-hand vaping we haven’t found yet because vaping hasn’t been around long enough to see it

One of the reasons I feel so comfortable using Tumblr over other social media is because this site is clearly too incompetent to be evil.

The basic business model of a social network is to harvest commercially valuable personal data and sell it, most famously via targeted ads. Anyone visiting my blog can clearly see that I am a queer furry who’s into video games and art. And yet I am only served ads for funeral homes, Bible story DVDs, and the current president’s reelection campaign (in 2018 for some reason)

Needless to say my click through rate has not been very good

Me: Runs a blog dedicated to dungeons and dragons and anime
Tumblr: You know what, you strike me as a sporty type

I’m a social media manager for my day job and Tumblr is literally the only social media platform I can relax on anymore because it’s so incompetent when it comes to exploiting my personal data.

i shitpost all day about basically nothing but fandom and dnd, and i have gotten ads multiple times for receipt paper rolls.
