The House just passed HR36 aka the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a law that would ban abortion after 20 weeks nationwide and punish those who perform them after that point with up to five years in prison.

Contact your senators and demand that they vote NO to eroding what’s left of our right to control our own bodies and reproductive fates.

Contact your representatives and give them a piece of your mind.

Most abortions done after four months often mean that the fetus is non-viable. It’s usually a medical emergency which means either there is a health issue for the child or the mother. if you keep a dead or dying fetus inside of you, you may die too. please call your senator.

From what I’ve seen of this new bill it actually says abortions after 20 weeks will be stopped unless the fetus is unviable or risk to the mothers life or in cases of rape and incest. So it’s covered. It’s literally banning needless abortions. From what I’ve seen it’s a good bill and a good step in the right direction. Abortions aren’t birth control and having one just cause you decided against the baby after 4 months is wrong. It’s pretty similar to the abortion law we have here which is at 24 weeks.

If the fetus is unviable, wouldn’t removing it be out of the realm of an abortion and be more of a medical procedure?

Abortion is a medical procedure. Abortion is what removes the fetus.

Not to mention, the idea that this bill is ending “needless abortions” after 20 weeks is ridiculous.

Some people don’t find out that they are pregnant until later in their pregnancies, others may (because of multiple of factors) only be able to get an abortion after they are 20 weeks pregnant.

Others may get an abortion after 20 weeks because their situation has changed (ex, they now have financial difficulties, trying to leave an abusive relationship, etc).

Some people may have been raped but have never reported it. Others may have heath issues that have come up during the pregnancy.

There are many reasons why someone wants to get an abortion after 20 weeks that are incredibly valid, but this bill will prevent them from getting the abortion that they need.

No abortion is “needless”.
