chameleon changes color

As pretty as this is, mostly reblogging so anyone who follows me and isn’t familiar with reptiles realizes that this video is faked… yes, chameleons shift colors, but no, they don’t change wildly like that. Not that wide a range, not that vibrantly, not generally that fast, and not to just mimic their surroundings. The way a bearded dragon’s chin will turn black and their stomach develops markings if they’re angry, stressed, sick, or horny, chameleons change colors based on circumstances like temperature and mood. They’re more like mood rings in a very limited palette than camouflage.
