We learned about this picture in art history! This was taken at a casual get together a bit away from the twin towers. The lady in the picture had just turned her head to look when the photograph was shot. Everyone at the gathering was horrified when they saw what happened, but the woman has since gotten a lot of flak for supposedly bein so blase about the whole thing (even though what had happened was that she hadn’t even had time to react). The lesson was that pictures can very easily be misappropriated for propaganda purposes. (And this goes for both the left and the right, before y’all start gettin self congratulatory about it)
Me: wise sage, give me what I need to banish the darkness from my mind
Pharmacist: here’s your antidepressants.
Me: no curse of mine shall befall you from my dying breath
Pharmacist: thank you
I love how this post implies that the pharmacist is just used to you by now
It depends on what kind of work you want to sell, how much time you’re willing to put in, and how much up-front cost you’re able to spend. As with all business ventures, getting your name and “brand” out there is one of the most crucial parts of gaining a steady audience, so make sure you keep your online presence! Drawing fandom works can help new people see your art who otherwise wouldn’t.
Digital Commission
If you want to sell strictly digital works, such as commission work, popular places to sell that I’ve noted are listings on Etsy, and popular social media such as Twitter and Instagram, where attention is gained on the platform, and business is conducted through email.
The best way to use Paypal for selling product (digital or physical) without a middle-man store site is through Paypal Invoices.
Here is a super helpful guide about paypal invoices specifically for commissions:
If you want to sell physical merchandise, a digital storefront may be your most reliable and best option:
Print-on-Demand vs. Self-Run
Print-on-Demand: This includes services like Redbubble and Printful. Shopify also has print-on-demand services. The site, or company, prints your design on shirts, tote-bags, and more, per demand, or order.
Here’s a comprehensive article by shopify about print-on-demand:
Pros : Reliable service, low maintenance, low start-up fees, no storage space needed.
Cons : Smaller profit, less customization (of packaging and thank-you notes, etc.)
Self-Run stores: This includes services like Etsy, Shopify, and Big-Cartel. The site is there to provide a storefront, and you’re in charge of providing the merchandise, shipping, and stock.
Here’s a dated, but very good start for researching self-run stores:
Pros: Greater customization of items and packaging, larger profit, more control.
Cons: High maintenance, high start-up fees, shipping hassle, needs storage space for stock.
^ Almost all these sites and methods use a payment service such as Paypal or Stripe. Note that while physical items are protected, digital goods are more often than not not liable for seller protection.
